Presumably, sleep-induced periodic breathing can cause upper airway obstruction in patients with sleep apnea syndrome (SAS). In order to investigate the relationship between periodic respiration and upper airway obstruction, this article reports the upper airway obstruction that occurs during sleep in 6 patients with tidal breathing. Six patients without SAS and upper airway anatomy with tidal breathing (5 males and 1 females). Age from 44 to 65 years old, with an average of 50 ± 8 years old. The average body weight / height ratio was normal, with one in eight cases exceeding normal (.48) due to congestive heart failure. Pulmonary function tests are non-obstructive airway disease. 5 cases of hypoxemia, P_A-αO_2 increased, with respiratory and / or metabolic alkalosis. The standard of apnea is to stop the mouth and nasal flow of 10 seconds or more, can be divided into central, obstructive or mixed three types.
