我与岑麒祥先生在中山大学同事,那是在1946至1953年。以后他调往北京大学,我们书信常通,可是两地遥隔,情况就难免隔膜了。 他给我留下的印象是终生难忘的。 第一,他研究语音十分认真。远在40年代中期,他就有语音学著作问世,可以说是中国语音学的开路先锋之一。他对广州话字音的研究,很有成绩,获得了同行的重视。 第二,他讲普通语言学,也是先驱者之一。他的《语言学概论》和《普通语言学》二书,文字浅显,条理分明,对许多人起了启蒙作用。后来他又写了《语言学史概要》,那是层次更高的著作,而且当时有某些禁忌不易下笔,但他在短期内完成了任务,我佩服他的博学和勇气。 My colleague Sun Qixiang at Sun Yat-sen University, which was from 1946 to 1953.
