Patients, regardless of their blood products, are at imminent risk of various infectious diseases, including hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Detection of HCV in blood products is one of the steps to ensure clinical safety. One of the ways is to detect HCV nucleic acid. The authors describe an easy way to isolate HCV RCA from blood products and to examine the presence of HCV RNA in 19 intravenous and intramuscular preparations produced by the National Institute of Blood Transfusion in Belgrade.
