改革开放的大潮,给舟山的经济、社会发展注入了新的活力。1994年,全市国内生产总值达58.7亿元,比上年增长20%;工农业总产值为112.3亿元,比上年增长32.4%;全市城乡人民收入增加,生活改善,全社会消费品零售总额为25.5亿元,比上年增长25%。 舟山市岛屿棋布,口门众多,航道畅通,岸滩稳定,港域宽阔,具有得天独厚的深水港口和航道资源优势。全市主要深水岸段有38处,岸线总长185公里;离岸200~500米内水深—15米以上的有103公里。港池、锚地和航道相互衔接,集疏方便,遮蔽性能好,是建设大型深水港口的理想港址。 近年来,舟山港的开发建设已初具规模。全市现有500吨级以上泊位85个,其中万吨级以上泊位7个,3000吨级泊位9个。尤其兴建大型深水泊位喜报频传,1992年老塘山港区2.5万吨级码头建成使用;1993年2月舟山兴中石油转运有限公司岙山基地20万吨级原油码头,顺利靠泊英国
