1974—1976年,我系在党的领导下,连续三年开展棉虫综合防治研究,防治示范面积不断扩大。1976年在汉阳县张湾等三个公社和沔阳红潭公社的潮愿、集木两个大队,发动群众。培训技术骨干,建立防虫专班(30—40亩固定1人),综合防治棉虫18,200亩,收到了很好的效果。综防区内,棉花单产比士年咸当年生产水平相当的常规施药区增产20—30%;每亩治虫用工3—5个,减少了40%左右;防虫费用每百斤皮棉2元以下,比常规施药区下降60—80%;生产上人畜中毒事故基本杜绝;天敌群落逐步恢复;
