Cassava is not only an important food crop, but also an important energy plant. Recently, the national 973 project “basic research on improving tropical cassava varieties” has been approved in Haikou. The project completed two genome-wide sequencing of cassava wild ancestral and cultivated species, covering 95% of the genetic code in the gene region and found more than 28,000 common genetic models and genes unique to both cultivated and wild species. More importantly, the comparison of genomes and transcriptomes revealed, for the first time, the causal pathways of photosynthetic production and efficient accumulation of starch in cassava
