During endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT), endothelial cells are separated from the endothelium to obtain mesenchymal cell phenotypes that are characterized by decreased cell ligation capacity and reduced endothelial markers resulting in Mesenchymal cell markers, and has diffusion and migration characteristics. In damaged tissue, endothelial cells are able to transdifferentiate to fibroblasts via EndMT, so endothelial cells with EndMT properties play an important role in tissue remodeling and fibrosis. Not only does EndMT participate in the important process of heart development, it also participates in many pathological conditions such as cancer, cardiac fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension. Therefore, targeting EndMT has potential therapeutic implications for a variety of diseases.
