The behavior of niobium in solvent extraction of nitric acid is discussed. Extractants tested include TBP, HDBP, H 2 MBP, irradiated TBP, HDEHP, TTA, and 7402 quaternary ammonium salts. The article describes in detail the special effects of aluminum and zirconium on solvent extraction of niobium and the behavior of niobium irradiated by TBP. Mention was also made of the effect of fluoride and uranium on the extraction of niobium in the aqueous phase. It is observed experimentally that there is no direct relationship between interface fouling and D_ (Nb) but adsorption on ~ (94) Nb. The state of extractable niobium and the extraction mechanism are also discussed as well as the reasons for the decontamination of ~ (95) Nb into the organic phase. Finally, suggestions are also made to improve the decontamination factor for ~ (95) Nb.
