在数字信号传输中,主机与传输线路之间、主机与外部设备之间以及主机与主机之间,常常需要采用电气隔离。早期常用脉冲变压器、继电器或复杂电路来实现。由于变压器体积大、频带窄,继电器动作慢、工作不可靠,它们都不能满足数字传输技术的要求。而光耦合器件是一种实现电气隔离和开关功能的理想器件,目前已越来越普遍地应用于数字信号传输电路中。
