1914年初郭沫若东渡日本,当年6月便考入东京第一高等学校。由于过于用功学习,使他得了严重的神经衰弱症:心悸、胸痛、步行缓慢、睡眠不安,一夜只能睡三、四小时,睡中多噩梦,记忆力大减。1915年9月,郭沫若在东京旧书店里偶然买了一部《王文成公全集》,读到王先生以“静坐”养病的方法后,他就开始试学。每天黎明和临睡时各静坐30分钟.不到两周,郭沫若的睡眠时间延长了,噩梦减少了,心悸也逐渐平复,还能骑马了。他说:“静坐于修养上最有功效,我很赞成朋友们静坐。”他归纳的静坐法则是:
