Because of his work of making local party history, he visited many anti-war fighters and insiders in the early 1980s and received not only valuable information but also many lessons. Among them, three interviews with Mr. Jiang Chunfang made me particularly memorable. That was the summer of 1982, and for the first time I was out of the mountains to collect information in Beijing. When arranging an interview, I wrote more than a dozen letters in an effort to book an interviewee. Unexpectedly, the first person who agreed to receive us turned out to be Mr. Jiang Chunfang, who has long admired. Mr. Jiang, former deputy director of the Compilation and Translation Bureau of the Marxist-Leninist works by the Central Government of the Communist Party of China, is a scholar of outstanding achievement who has learned both in the West and in the Chinese intelligentsia.
