河西是一个新冬麦区,解放前以春小麦为主,冬小麦只有星点种植。解放后从1955年开始试验示范。由于种植冬小麦可以调剂劳、畜力,调节用水用肥,成熟早,品质好,产量稳定,利于复种,因而深受群众欢迎,面积逐年扩大。目前张掖、临泽、高台三县就约种冬小麦30万亩,占小麦面积40％,个别社队达50—60％。在整个冬麦发展过程中,引进良种在生产上发挥了一定的经济效益,深感引种是迅速获得优良品种的重要途径。在此
