The combination of tectonic deformation and mechanical analysis began at the end of the nineteenth century. Since then, many scholars have continuously discussed various types of tectonic deformation and stress, and have made a series of rock mechanics tests and physical simulations that can help to solve the mechanism of tectonic formation. As early as the forties, Li Siguang pointed out the basic principle of using tectonic deformation to deduce the structure of stress field (which mainly refers to the determination of principal stress direction at the time) and systematically described the relationship between various types of tectonics and the direction of principal stress . In the mid-1950s, Grzewski introduced the study of tectonic stress field using the method of polar stereographic projection to find the spatial orientation of the principal stress axis.
