《芮良夫毖》中的“圣人”特指有威权的诸侯大臣,“彼人”指周厉王,“君子”指普通卿大夫,“君”、“元君”指世族伯长,诸词汇的使用均具早期特点,非战国时之泛称。竹书“和德定刑”的提法与西周早期“明德慎刑”观念一脉相承,且其散韵结合、“诗”“书”合体的文体特点反映了部分“诗”类作品的早期传述状态。竹书当作于西周晚期厉王出奔之后,共和行政之前。学界针对楚简“诗”类文献所提出的“战国虚构说”尚可商榷。竹书主旨直斥周厉王已无资格为王,主张征召有威权的诸侯伯长入主朝政,实为“共和行政”张本。竹书反映了西周晚期世族势力勃兴,家臣制度完善,世族之间矛盾丛生的历史情实,同时反映了西周晚期王权观念的重大改变。
