This article encourages the historians of the world to boldly attempt to write narrative history and micro-history in order to correct the overemphasis on “patterns” and “structures” in previous studies. The author believes that the global micro-history focuses on the “joys and sorrows” of people who can demonstrate cross-cultural connections and global changes, and this article is just one example of this writing mode. The story tells the story of a Chinese farmer, two African boys, two debating Dutch officers and a Chinese general. The historical wave of transnational trade and intercultural interaction that engulfed the seventeenth century brought together all these characters. The author hopes that this storytelling approach will attract more students and ordinary readers to participate in global history, and hope that this approach will also arouse more people’s resonance with the path and insights of global history research.
