This article discusses the potential applications of parallel computing in radar digital signal processing and discusses two types of rule array processors. The first type of processor is a Systolic or Wavefornt array that forms a highly specialized parallel processing architecture. This article discusses the use of Systolic and Wavefront arrays for adaptive beamforming and evaluates STL-RSRE’s Adaptive Antenna Processor Test station. It also outlines the design of STL’s Systolic node processor chip. The second type of rule array processor is a single instruction multiple data stream (SIMD) parallel computer. It forms a highly programmable processor. Although its data throughput is not particularly high, it is very flexible. Mil-DAP is the processor of this kind, which is a very succinct introduction of this processor and discusses its various applications in radar signal processing.
