Idioms contain a lot of cultural information and reflect the differences in history,geography,religion,custom and thinking mode of different ethnic groups.Translation is not simply a matter of seeking other words with similar meaning.As a translator,one must consider the underlying cultural factors in the process of translation.The present paper discusses the translation of idioms based on the differences between Chinese and western cultures in order to enable readers to understand and use idioms better.
