平江不肖生武侠小说表现师傅求贤徒母题,可分为爱惜禀赋寻找好苗、谋取衣食并扬名、以传授武艺报恩等。收徒方式或比武或表演吸引对象仰慕,或作为某种交换条件,或强行掠走等。师傅收徒常有偏好。明清小说已开不肖生之先河。母题生成,是传统“私学”文化价值观的遗存,也昭示出农耕社会、武林传统规约、沟通有限等不利于师徒遇合,及由此带来的困境和苦恼。
