医学家认为利用干扰素抗癌是加强巨噬细胞吞食癌细胞等异物的作用,巨噬细胞能将侵入体内的细菌,病毒以及癌细胞等异物,将其吞食消化后,排出体外。日本京都大学医用高分子研究中心,注意到巨噬细胞处吞食用于接着剂的白明胶(gelatin),遂将白明胶制成直径约1.5微米的微粒子,再将干扰素包在里面喂给鼠,进行巨噬细胞多种实验,均取得很好成绩。(1)将上述鼠的巨噬细胞和癌细胞放在试管内,证实比单纯的干扰素杀死癌细胞力量大得多。
