In the literature, a highly sensitive low temperature thermocouple with a copper + iron alloy electrode has been proposed. Like gold alloys, copper alloys that add small amounts of 3-d transition metal have high thermopower at low temperatures, which is known to be related to the “Kondo effect.” A necessary condition for generating a high thermal potential is that there are no other impurities in the alloy that can inhibit the contribution of the 3-d metal additive to the thermopower.
