5.8mm手枪弹作为自卫手枪弹药,能量多有剩余,但是作为冲锋枪弹药,能量就明显不足,在50m距离上不能击穿凯夫拉防护装置,因此它不能作为战斗枪弹使用。 提高弹头威力主要是提高弹头初速,虽然加长枪管在一定范围内可以提高弹头初速,但增加到一定限度弹头初速就不会再提高了,另外,在战术上也不允许枪管太长。然而,明亮的枪口焰和巨大的枪口噪声说明这时的膛压并不小,弹头与枪管之间的摩擦也较大,如果能改变弹头结构,减小这个摩擦力,一定能提高弹头初速。
