OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether glutamate and its N M D A receptors are involved in the transmission of nociceptive stimuli and to reveal their intrinsic relationship with the transmission of toothache. Methods: 28 rats were randomly assigned to 4 groups. One group was treated with transmyotrophic stimulation alone, while the other group was pre-transventricularly administered with three concentrations of glutamate NMDA receptor antagonist M K-801 before transmuscular stimulation. Another M K-801 control group and normal control group. After surviving the same time, the expression of Fos protein in the medulla oblongata of each group was observed. Results: The expression of Fos protein in medulla oblongata of M K-801 + group was significantly lower than that of M group, and dose dependent. CONCLUSION: Glutamate may be involved in the transmission of dental pulp nociceptive information, with N M D A receptor playing an important role.
