According to Italian researchers, obese patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) have a much lower sensitivity to hepatic insulin than obese individuals. OSAS has nothing to do with the degree of obesity and fat distribution. Previous reports on the association between OSAS, obesity and insulin sensitivity have been quite contradictory. To further elucidate the issue, Mauro Maccario and colleagues from the University of Turin in Italy conducted a controlled study of 30 obese individuals with OSAS, 27 obese individuals (OB) and 20 normal individuals (NS).
