在新疆歌剧团来京以前,我曾在乌鲁木齐看过演出。那是在已经演了一百四十多场以后,我见剧场外还是站着不少等待退票的群众。据说,如果适应全自治区群众的要求,需要连续再演两年。为了满足听众的渴望,新疆广播电台经常播放这一歌剧的录音,有的地方的半导体收音机竟因此被抢购一空。当我们有的地方的歌剧正遇到上座不佳、感到“危机”、寻找出路的时候,探讨一下这一歌剧的经验,可能有助于歌剧的发展。
