陶-铜体系,是野蛮向文明的过渡阶段;到木-铁体系阶段,就实现了这个过渡。制陶技术(多种原料配方、高温调控、陶窑设备等),构成冶铜和铸铜的技术基础;从陶窑发展为早期的炼铜设备小竖炉。该文作者提出陶-铜体系的“陶冶时代”新概念,作为史前史“木石器时代”之后的第二个时代。认为陶-铜体系有两个子系统:铜器子系统和陶器子系统。过去把铜器时代仅仅局限为“青铜时代”是不全面的。进入“火技术”的陶冶时代后,铜器技术的发展史,应划分为纯红铜时期、砷白铜时期、锡青铜时期、锌黄铜时期等四大时期。必须注意到:许多地区的纯红铜时期几乎都与彩陶文化共存,这说明陶冶时代陶-铜体系的铜器技术子系统与陶器技术子系统密切相关。历时一万多年的陶冶时代,也就是综合工具和“后期智人”的成长时代,即野蛮向文明——陶-铜体系到木-铁体系的完成。该文首次提出“陶器时期应划分为四个阶段”的新观念。
