无锡市博物院是由博物馆、革命历史馆、科技馆三馆合一的综合体建筑,它是无锡市政府确定为公众社会文化事业的发展,反映现代城市风貌,展现山水文化名城内涵和凸显城市整体形象的重要工程;为此于2005年初进行了建筑方案国际邀请赛,“水光石色”方案以其强烈的地域特色以及与太湖广场的高度融合而得到一致好评,2005-2006年进行设计,2008年8月建成。
