This article describes the theory of the Magnetotelluric (MT) method and its application to petroleum exploration over the past five years to analyze and interpret the state of the art. Emphasis is placed on interpretation, although the interpretation work has greatly improved, but further improvement is still needed. Field results were obtained from southern Texas in the Gulf Coast of Mexico and the Anadarko Basin in southwestern Oklahoma. In order to evaluate the basin, a larger pitch was used. Results from southern Texas are compared to smoothed induction logs. No well logs were found in Oklahoma. The known parts of these basins, as well as those that were not reached by seismic methods, compared with the known and inferred geology, illustrate that this measurement successfully mapped resistivity plots. The efficiency and economy of the MT method show that it plays an important role in evaluating large areas of undocumented areas and “undocumented” areas of the earthquakes.
