在中国古代小说研究史上,寻找、发现新文献一直是一项备受关注的重要工作,其价值和意义是显而易见的:每当有重要文献的新发现,比如《游仙窟》、《大唐三藏取经诗话》、全相平话五种、《金瓶梅词话》、《红楼梦》甲戌本的发现等,不仅给学界带来惊喜,带来全新的学术信息,而且由此形成新的学术话题与研究领域,推动着整个学科的发展。可以说小说文献新发现与小说研究之间一直保持着较为良性的互动关系,由此形成了一种良好的学术传统。
