油画这一世界画种在我国起步比较晚,迄至今日传到我国还不足一个世纪。而早在一个多世纪以前清王朝同治末年的1874年,在法国巴黎的画坛上。印象主义先驱们就已经旗帜鲜明地与学院派的旧有体系实行决裂,进行一场史无前例的色彩革命了。我们的油画艺术底子薄,在那与世隔绝一边倒的年代里,无论在艺术教育或艺术创作上,都选择了一条十分狭窄的弯路。记得五十年代中期,我们最初聘请苏联画家马克西莫夫来中央美术学院办油画训练班时,文化部的一位领导,在专为这位专家举行的欢迎会上竟这样说:我国的油画还很落后,我们应当向苏联老大哥学习,今天请来了苏联著名的油画专家马克西莫夫同志,
Painting in the world of painting started relatively late in our country, as of today spread to our country less than a century.
