道家音乐美学思想以“静、淡、远、虚”为特征,对中国传统音乐特别是文人音乐具有深远的影响。古琴音乐作为文人音乐的重要组成部分,从含蓄、内敛而具空灵之美的音色,音乐的细部特征、乐曲结构、演奏手法,琴曲的立意及其所体现的虚实相生、追求意境的美学况味,文人追求自我精神解放和人格独立的操琴方式等方面,集中体现了“静、淡、远、虚”的审美观和意趣追求。
