For decades, the issue of child labor has drawn widespread concern among industries and consumers around the world, even more so in Asia. Although the International Labor Organization (ILO) pointed out that the problem of child labor in Asia has been significantly improved in recent years, as of 2012, the number of child laborers in the Asia Pacific region is still as high as 78 million, ranking the first in the world. Child labor remains a pervasive phenomenon in Asian supply chains, and most child labor coping mechanisms do not take full account of the best interests of child labor.
