Background DNA barcoding is potentially a simple, rapid and accurate method for species-level identification.Several difficulties have hindered its application for authentication of medicinal materials, such as the lack of authoritative reference sequence for individual species, the inability to represent intraspecific variations using single reference sequence, and the lack of support for visual examination of species distances.The current study is initiated to overcome these hurdles.
