The small brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus, is a major pest of rice in East Asia and a vector of Rice stripe virus (RSV).L.striatellus has recently broken out in Jiangsu Province, eastem China.The population density in the province started to increase in the early 2000s and peaked in 2004.One year later, in 2005, the RSV viruliferous rate of L.striatellus peaked to become 25 percent.
