Background: Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) cause various diseases in both human and wildlife and have become a new global environmental problem. The toxic effects of POPs can be induced through their binding to specific proteins in the body. For instance, recent studies revealed that widespread POPs, dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (4,4-DDE) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), are antagonists of androgen receptor (AR);2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) reduces rapidly the activity of CK2 (casein kinase Ⅱ) both in vivo and in vitro. However, the inhibition mechanisms remain elusive.
