To evaluate expressions of phosphorylation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 5(p-STAT5) in left ventricle in untrained and trained rats. Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley rats aged 8 weeks were randomly assigned to either acute exercise group or endurance trained group.Rats in acute exercise group were subjected to a one hour treadmill exercise, rats in endurance training group were subjected to 11 week endurance training, both acute and chronic exercise training rats were sacrificed at 0, 1, 3, 5, 12 and 24 hours respectively after the last run.p-STAT5 expression in left ventricles were assessed by immunohistochemistry, all procedures were performed blindly with respect to the experimental condition of the animal. Results the percentage of p-STAT5 immunoreactive cells remarkablely increased 1 and 3 hours postexercise in untrained rats (P<0.01;P<0.05);However, trained rats showed no significant changes of p-STAT5 expressions at any time point post exercise (P>0.05).Conclusion acute endurance exercise induced significant transient increased expression of p-STAT5 in the heart of untrained rats, but these changes were abolished after endurance training.
