Reentries (spiral waves) in beating heart can anchor to heterogeneities such as blood vessels and scars leading to stable arrhythmia and fibrillation, causing sudden death.Implantable cardiac pacemaker is successfully adapting the method of high-frequency pacing to recover normal mode. However a failure rate of approximately 10% requires deeper investigations. We showed that the application of high-frequency pacing can unpin spiral waves from non conducting obstacles in cardiomyocyte tissue culture of neonatal rats.
