The static and dynamic crushing behaviour of sandwich tubes between two rigid plates was investigated experimentally and numerically in the paper.The dynamic strength and energy absorption of sandwich tubes were obtained and analysed.Similar to quasi-static case, the major collapse mechanism was bending by the forming of plastic hinges accompanied with crushing of the core.Two bonding cases between core and monolithic tubes, being the fully bonded case and the packed case were considered.Their deformation history and load-compression curves were obtained.Three different crushing pattems have been identified from these experiments.FE models using ABAQUS were developed and validated against experimental results.The detailed deformation features and energy absorption mechanism during the crushing process was identified.
