BK channels distributed in the central nervous system always play important roles in modulating the frequency of nerve impulse.Gain-of-function mutation in BK channels can cause spontaneous seizures.In this study,the anticonvulsant effect of martentoxin,a neuronal BK channel blocker(IC50=72 nM),was evaluated in PTZ-induced model of seizure in rats.Intrahippocampal application of martentoxin could alleviate seizures in PTZ treatment rats,prolong the latency to onset of the seizures and dose-dependently reduce the seizure duration.
