The white-backed planthopper, Sogatellafurcifera (Horváth), is a major pest of rice in Asia (Rutter et al., 1998), with the adults and larvae sucking the phloem sap and affecting plant growth (Denno and Perfect, 1994).Moreover, it can transmit a virus, southem rice black-streaked dwarf virus (SRBSDV), which was first observed in 2001 and has spread rapidly and become a great threat to rice production in East Asia (Zhou et al., 2008; Zhang et al., 2008).
