Incidence of brain metastasis has been increasing in the recent years, however, its molecular mechanism is poorly understood to date.In cancer metastasis, it is important for cancer cells to survive and proliferate at the metastatic sites through interaction with host cells in the microenvironment of metastatic sites.We therefore examined interaction of cancer cells with glial cells in an experimental model of brain metastasis using human lung cancer cells(HARAB).Brain metastases were histologically proven 4-5 weeks after intracardiac inoculation of HARA-B cells in nude mice.Accumulation of activated microglia and astrocytes was found around metastatic foei in the brain.
