Due to highly explosive and water solubility of picric acid (PA),developing new materials for ultrasensitive detection of PA has earned more and more attention in recent years.1,2 On the basis of our previous researches on the synthesis and application of heterocyclic functional materials,2-4 a new benzimidazole-based fluorescent molecule 4 bearing planar naphthalene moiety and two flexible alkyl chains has been designed and simply synthesized in the presence of inexpensive and metal-free catalysts.It has been proved that,for the introduction of naphthalene core and N-alkyl chain,4 can ultrasensitively detect PA in multiple modes,including in aqueous media via the combination of electron and energy transfer mechanism involving in self-assembly as anticipated (Fig.1).
