The role of brassinosteroids (BRs) in hyponastic responses of leaves under flooding condition was investigated in A.thaliana.Under flooding condition, exogenously applied BRs increased hyponastic responses of Arabidopsis leaves. In a BR insensitive mutant (bri1-5),hyponastic responses of leaves were decreased, while the responses were increased in a BR dominant mutant (bes1-D) than those in wild type plants.Additionally, expression of marker genes for hypoxia (HRE1 and HRE2) was activated in bes1-D compared to wild type. This implicates that BR has a positive activity for hyponastic responses of Arabidopsis leaves under submergence.
