The terahertz spectral range (1-30THz),a spectral regime between millimeter and infrared wavelengths,remains one of the least developed spectral regions despite the many potential applications including but not limited to:biomedical sciences,THz imaging and air-port secudty screening,quality control of food,spectroscopy,communications,and astronomy science.One of the major reasons for such a slow development of THz systems is the lack of compact room-temperature or thermoelectrically (TE)-cooled,electrically pumped THz lasers.
