Integration of genetic selection methods into aquaculture breeding programs promises to increase genetic gains over traditional phenotypic selection for complex or hard to measure traits. For complex traits, new advanced genomic breeding methodologies promise to accurately predict genome-wide breeding values for improved accuracy of selection. In order to fully develop genomic selection techniques, tens of thousands of genetic loci are required with detailed phenotypic records. Furthermore, comprehensive detailed information on genome structure and population size / structure is required.
