Fetal abnormality is a major cause of perinatal mortality.Termination of pregnancy for fetal abnormality significantly reduces perinatal mortality. The use of medical termination allows autopsy, which yields additional information for revision of recurrent risks in more than one fourth of the cases.A literature search is performed and the methods for medical termination of pregnancy for fetal abnormality in the second trimester are compared. The combined use of mifepristone and misoprostol results in the shortest duration of medical termination of pregnancy for fetal abnormality in the second trimester. However a significant proportion of the women would have excessive blood loss and the majority requires analgesia.Monitoring is therefore required during the procedure.
