Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is an oxidative metabolite of arachidonic acid that mediates an array of physiologic functions through its cognate E-Prostanoid (EP) receptors.EP receptors are expressed in in both immune-inflammatory cell compartments as well as as tissues that regulate metabolic homeostasis including adipose tissue and the pancreas.Activation of the G-protein coupled EP receptors may thus link inflammation and metabolic dysfunction.
