Stress is the response to the stimulus of environment.Cognitive function is the ability to learn,retain,recall information,also includes all mental abilities and processes related to knowledge.Moderate stress favour the cognitive function.While when given acutely or chronically,the performance of learning and memory maybe blocked or interfered.Chronic stress has detrimental effects on brain structures and functions.Studies mainly focused on hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal(HPA)axis,the PVN,prefrontal cortex,hippocampus and amygdala,given their well-described roles in NE,DA,5-TH,HSP 70,neuropeptide,Gc,CORT,GABAergic and so on.More recently,investigation has turned towards hormones in the hypothalamic-pituitarygonadal axis like luteinizing hormone,estradiol,PROG.Investigation into the role of gonadotropin is needed,while modulating intestinal flora may be another direction of research.
