γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a non-protein amino acid widely distributed in plants,animals and bactera.A selected strain Lactobacillus sp.OPK isolated from kimchi was identified using an API kit.Previously we cloned a glutamate decarboxylase (GAD),which catalyzes the decarboxylation of L-glutamate to GABA,gene from the genomic DNA of the strain.In this paper we have cloned another novel GAD gene from the genomic DNA of the strain and the amino acid sequence deduced from GAD ORF showed 79%,52%,and 51% identity to the Laetobacillus paracasei(BAG12190),Lactococcus lactis subsp.
