Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of zinc-dependent proteolytic enzymes.The overexpression of these proteinases is associated with a number of pathological processes such as arthritis,cancer and emphysema.Thus,matrix metalloprotease inhibitors (MMPIs) are expected to be useful for the treatment of these disorders.In this study a series of new α-halogen substituted succinate-based hydroxamic acid compouds were designed,synthesized and evaluated as MMPIs.
