The research program started from the collection and sort-out of both domestic and foreign literary documents, analyzed the evolution, the present status and future trend of flying safety standards after diving and the gap that existed between our country and those developed countries;compared the flying safety standards after diving by various countries. The focus of our standards was to reduce the risk of decompression sickness and also to minimize the time delay before flying. With the above research work completed, the first real professional standards in the transportation and traffic profession in China, "the Flying Requirements for Divers after Diving", were thus developed, which clearly specified minimum surface intervals and flying altitudes for different types of diving and in case of decompression sickness. At the same time, the standards gave additional explanations to critical responses in urgent medical conditions or in case when the diver was seized with DCS during flight. The research results have filled the gap in flying safety standards for divers after diving in China, and will be of great significance to safe and timely medical evacuation of divers with injuries and diving diseases, to reductions of incident rates and grades of diving accidents, and to the health of divers as well.
